What's On My Nightstand

Image
My nightstand runneth over right now (so to speak)!  I have so many great books I'm reading that I cannot wait to tell you about.  I love the winter months when I can curl up in bed with a great book and read for hours!  Below are some of my favorite reads to date.  I hope you enjoy! 1.  Summer at Tiffany You will love this book!  It is a true story about two girls who leave the University of Iowa to live in New York in the summer of 1945.  I love hearing about their adventures, the boys they meet but especially about their job at Tiffany!  2.  The Violets of March Is one of those books that reminded me why I love to read.  It is a great story about a woman who had it all, lost it all and finds her way back.  I love how this writer tells a story and you will too! 3.  Cold Tangerines I'm not sure I can say enough great things about this book!  It is an amazing collection of short stories about the writers life, struggles, challenges, joys and finding the go

It's Wine Time

If you know me, you know I love a great glass of wine!!  At the end of the day there is nothing I love more than having a glass of wine and taking a hot bath.  It just washes the bad day away and makes everything better.  I am always on the look out for a great wine that I can find at the grocery store and won't blow the budget (yes the hubs still has me on a budget)!  I like to find wine at the grocery store so I don't have to go to the wine store as well....call me lazy :)  Below are some of my favorite wines that you can find at your local grocery store that won't blow your budget! 1.  Diseno Malbec Is an amazing wine from Argentina that I always keep in the house!  It is super smooth and always a crowd pleaser.  You can pick it up at Publix or Ingles. 2.  Les Violettes Is my hand down favorite red wine!  It is an incredible Cotes du Rhone that goes incredibly well with any meal.  It is smooth, delicious and available at Publix! 3.  Cupcake Pinot Grigio

Signature Style: For The Weekend

Image
So how was your week?  Have you been living for the weekend?  Time to wear your pj's all day or slip into you favorite pair of jeans.  I am thinking the same thing!  I decided for this edition of signature style to get down to weekend basics :)  I love a great pair of jeans that fit like a glove (and it is a bonus if they are in style) and are comfortable.  I love slipping into my PJs on a Friday night and watching Dateline with a glass of red wine....lordy has my idea of a good time changed :)  In any event there are certain items I have to have for my weekend!  Here are some of my favorite weekend go to items! 1.  J. Brand Love Story Jeans I absolutely adore these jeans because they fit great, look amazing and you will have them forever!!  Even better they come in white for spring/summer :) 2.  Gold Earrings I absolutely love, love a pair of classic gold stud earrings.  I love the simple classic gold balls (if you will) and I love that some designers have a new tak

It's In The Shoes

Image
So my sweet, funny friend from work suggested that I do a posting on shoes!  She knows me very well and I'm actually surprised I haven't done a posting devoted to shoes yet as they are my favorite thing to purchase (so this might only be my first edition of it's in the shoes)! To demonstrate my deep affinity for shoes I have to tell you a story.  The other night at dinner my best friend's husband asked me "exactly how many pairs of shoes do you have?" I did some mental counting and then responded to say he was shocked would be putting it mildly.  I then realized (I had a few glasses of wine in me) that he meant in general and I said "oh you mean for spring and summer to0? I only told you for fall and winter."  At this point he looked at the hubs and said "God bless you."  :) I love that line in the movie In Her Shoes when Toni Collette says "When I feel bad I like to treat myself. Clothes never look any good... food just makes me

For this edition of the best blogs you aren't reading I decided to tackle home decor!  I am slowly dipping my toe into the area of home design and taking some risks so I have been scouring the internet for great blogs on interior design.  These blogs are giving me inspiration and encouragement for my own home and I hope they do the same for you!  I am starting out small in my foray into decorating with new granite counter tops and stools for our kitchen.  Whatever project for your home you are working on I hope you find these blogs as amazing as I do! 1.  Margaret Long Designs http://margaretlongdesigns.com/blog/2010/03/18/lang-lang/ I love, love her blog and her designs!  I feel like she is the ulimate in southern chic and charm.  I especially like that she is young and full of ideas and inspiration.  Check out her blog and you will become a devoted reader in no time! 2.  Cindy Lynn Dunaway Interiors http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Cindy-Lynn-Dunaway-Interiors/222

Must Have Makeup

Image
I took a little field trip to Sephora last week in the name of research!  The hubs version of the story is I didn't stick to my beauty budget for the month and will have to cut out those $$ somewhere else.  Blah, blah is what I have to say :)  Not that I don't love the hubs, but budget discussions are about as much fun as sitting in traffic on GA 400 in rush hour, in my opinion.  In any event I found some of the most amazing beauty products and saw some of the can't live without items I already have so my field trip was a great success!  I hope my readers enjoy my research :) 1.  Amy Butler Accessories Bags I adore these bags so much that I have them in each size!  My BFF got me the medium size for my birthday and it motivated me to buy the small and large bags.  I use the small bag for jewelry when I travel, the large bag as my cosmetic kit when I travel and I use the medium bag everyday because it stores my makeup!  I absolutely love using this bag because it ha

Spring Fling

Image
Am I the only one who is living for spring?!  I know, I know we haven't even seen the worst of winter and I am dreaming of sandy beaches and sunshine.  I need a tan, a frozen drink and a lounge chair stat!  Unfortunately I don't think that is going to be happening anytime soon so in the mean time I have been searching for fun, new pieces to add to my spring wardrobe.  Lately I have been hunkered down behind my computer looking for white jeans, maxi dresses and new purses to ring in spring!  Here are a few of my favorites so far. 1.  Alice and Olivia Wide Leg Pant How adorable are these green wide leg pants?!  I am dying to wear them with a white blouse and platform heels.  I think having these pants would make going to work so much more bearable :) 2.  Citizens of Humanity Mandy Floral Roll Up Jeans These may not be your cup of tea but as a child of the 80s I LOVE THEM!!  I don't know if I will roll them up or not but I can't wait to wear them with a t-shirt

What's On My Nightstand

Soo given my profession and the fact that I'm a complete political junkie I have gotten requests to do an edition of what's on my nightstand geared towards politics.  This posting could go on forever and ever as I love to read anyway and this political science major especially loves to read anything about politics, elections, candidates and everything in between.  So even if you aren't interested in politics or if you are knee deep in politics I think the books below are for you!  They are some amazing reads about campaigns, candidates and politics at its finest.  1.  1776 I know I'm going to sound like your political science or history teacher but you really need to read 1776!  First of all David McCullough is an amazing writer and historian and you need to read at least one of his books in your lifetime.  In the book McCullough takes on the critical year of 1776 which details the conflict between Great Britain and the colonies that would eventually become Ame
